Ingredients

  • 3 to 3 1/2 lb. whole broiler chicken, skinned
  • 1 c. diced celery
  • 1 c. diced onions
  • 1 qt. frozen green beans or 2 large cans
  • 8 carrots, sliced
  • 2 cans tomatoes
  • 1/4 small head cabbage
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 ears of corn, cut off cobs
  • 1 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. chili powder
  • 1/2 pkg. onion soup mix
  • 1/2 tsp. oregano
  • 2 turnips
  • 10 medium potatoes
  • 1 c. frozen okra

Method

  • Put chicken in large 6-quart boiler with celery, onions and salt and pepper; cook until chicken is done.
  • Debone and cut up chicken; return to pot.
  • Add carrots, green beans, tomatoes, corn and all seasonings.
  • Add potatoes, okra, cabbage and turnips about 30 minutes before soup is done.
  • Makes about 6 quarts and can be stored in deep freeze.
