Ingredients

  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 750 g(1½ lb) beef mince
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 2 teaspoons cracked black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons plum sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh rosemary
  • 1–2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh mint or fresh sweet basil
  • oil, for frying

Method

1. Combine the onion, beef, egg, garlic, pepper, salt, sauces and herbs in a large bowl using your hands to mix well. Shape level tablespoonsful of the mixture into balls.

2. Heat the oil in a large frying pan. Cook the meatballs in batches over medium heat for 5 minutes, or until evenly browned. Shake the pan during cooking to prevent sticking. Drain on paper towels; keep warm. Serve with tomato or barbecue sauce, if desired.
