Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper
  • 1/8 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/3 cup ground hazelnuts
  • 1/2 cup fine dry bread crumbs
  • 1 lb. mushrooms, washed and dried
  • Solid all-vegetable shortening for deep frying

Method

  • In small bowl slightly beat eggs with salt, pepper and nutmeg.
  • In separate bowl, mix together hazelnuts and bread crumbs.
  • Dip mushrooms in egg mixture, then coat with hazelnut mixture.
  • Heat shortening to 365F in deep pan and fry mushrooms, a few at a time, for 6 to 7 minutes or until golden brown on all sides.
  • Drain on paper towel and sprinkle with additional salt, if desired.
