Ingredients

  • 1 lb. lentils
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 10 c. water
  • 1 lb. hamburger
  • 1 c. chopped onion
  • 2 tsp. parsley, chopped
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. marjoram
  • 1 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 2 c. tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 c. sliced carrots
  • 1 c. sliced celery

Method

  • Combine lentils (rinsed and drained), 2 teaspoons salt, bay leaf and water. Boil, then simmer 45 minutes. Brown hamburger with onion, parsley, garlic powder, marjoram, salt and pepper.
  • Combine with lentils. Add tomatoes, carrots and celery. Bring to a boil. Cover and simmer 30 minutes.
  • Makes 3 1/2 quarts.
