Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 c. chopped onion
  • 3 Tbsp. flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • pepper to taste
  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. dry milk powder
  • 4 medium potatoes (2 lb.), thinly sliced
  • 2 to 3 c. cooked ham, diced
  • 1 c. shredded Cheddar cheese

Method

  • Preheat oven to 375°.
  • Melt butter in a medium saucepan.
  • Add onion and cook until tender.
  • Stir in flour, salt and pepper until blended; gradually stir in milk and dry milk powder.
  • Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture boils and thickens.
  • In a 2-quart greased casserole, layer half the potatoes, ham cubes and sauce.
  • Repeat layers and sprinkle with cheese.
  • Bake, covered, 45 minutes.
  • Uncover and bake 15 to 20 minutes longer or until potatoes are done.
