Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1/4 c. milk
  • 1 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking flour
  • pinch of salt
  • 4 egg whites, beaten until stiff
  • 1 c. powdered sugar or 3/4 c. granulated sugar
  • nuts

Method

  • Cream butter and sugar.
  • Add egg yolks.
  • Alternate milk and flour.
  • Mix this dough gradually and spread in 2 (9-inch round tins).
  • Beat the egg whites stiff.
  • Add the powdered sugar or granulated sugar gradually; spread on top of batter.
  • Sprinkle nuts on top.
  • Bake for 25 minutes at 350°.
  • (Do not make a day ahead, as this torte is best served the same day as it is made.)
