Ingredients

  • 1 c. Crisco
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 3 eggs, well beaten
  • 2 Tbsp. molasses
  • 2 c. raisins, floured
  • 2 c. dates, chopped and floured
  • 4 c. canned fruits (crushed pineapple, peaches, pears, applesauce, maraschino cherries)
  • 1 1/2 c. nuts, chopped
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 tsp. grated lemon rind
  • 2 tsp. grated orange rind
  • juice from 2 lemons
  • juice from 2 oranges
  • 1 tsp. baking soda, dissolved in 3 Tbsp. hot water
  • 3 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

Method

  • Preheat oven to 375°.
  • Cream Crisco and sugar.
  • Add eggs and molasses; mix well.
  • Add fruits, nuts, dates, vanilla, soda, water, then flour, spices and salt which have been sifted together.
  • Drop by spoonful onto well-greased and floured cookie sheet.
  • Bake at 375° for 15 minutes.
  • Remove to rack to cool.
