- 1 c. Crisco
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 3 eggs, well beaten
- 2 Tbsp. molasses
- 2 c. raisins, floured
- 2 c. dates, chopped and floured
- 4 c. canned fruits (crushed pineapple, peaches, pears, applesauce, maraschino cherries)
- 1 1/2 c. nuts, chopped
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 tsp. grated lemon rind
- 2 tsp. grated orange rind
- juice from 2 lemons
- juice from 2 oranges
- 1 tsp. baking soda, dissolved in 3 Tbsp. hot water
- 3 1/2 c. flour
- 1 tsp. cloves
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. salt
Method
- Preheat oven to 375°.
- Cream Crisco and sugar.
- Add eggs and molasses; mix well.
- Add fruits, nuts, dates, vanilla, soda, water, then flour, spices and salt which have been sifted together.
- Drop by spoonful onto well-greased and floured cookie sheet.
- Bake at 375° for 15 minutes.
- Remove to rack to cool.
