Ingredients

  • 6 c. flour
  • 1/2 Tbsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 3/4 c. vegetable shortening
  • 1 1/2 c. very warm water

Method

  • Mix flour, salt and baking powder in a bowl.
  • Add shortening; mix well.
  • Add half of the water and knead.
  • Add rest of water; knead well.
  • Let dough stand, covered, for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat grill to medium heat.
  • Make 25 to 30 golf ball size balls from dough.
  • Roll out into tortillas.
  • Cook on grill about a minute on each side, until tortilla fluffs on the third turn.
  • Makes 25 to 30 tortillas.
