Ingredients
- 5 1/2 to 6 c. flour
- 2 pkg. Fleischmann's active dry yeast
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 2 c. milk
- 1/2 c. water
- cornmeal (measure flour by spooning lightly into cup)
Method
- Combine 3 cups of flour, yeast, sugar, salt and soda.
- Heat liquids until warm (120° to 130°).
- Add to dry ingredients; beat well.
- Stir in enough more flour to make a stiff batter.
- Spoon into 2 loaf pans that have been greased and sprinkled with corn meal.
- Cover; let stand in warm place for 1 hour.
- Sprinkle with cornmeal and bake, uncovered, at 400° for 25 minutes.
- Remove immediately from pans and cool.
- To serve, slice and toast. Yields 16 slices per loaf.
