Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 2 (8 oz.) cans tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp. dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1 c. sour cream
  • 1 (8 oz.) pkg. sour cream, softened
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 2 Tbsp. chopped onion
  • 6 oz. noodles, cooked
  • 1 (10 oz.) pkg. frozen spinach, cooked and drained
  • 4 oz. shredded Cheddar cheese

Method

  • In a large skillet, cook beef until brown. Drain off fat. Stir in tomato sauce, basil, sugar, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for 5 minutes. Combine sour cream, cream cheese, milk and onion. In a greased 8 x 8 x 2-inch baking dish or 2-quart casserole, layer 1/2 of the noodles, 1/2 meat mixture, 1/2 of the cream cheese mixture, then all the spinach. Layer with remaining noodles and meat. Cover with foil. Bake at 350° for 45 minutes. Chill remaining cream cheese mixture. After 45 minutes, spread remaining cream cheese mixture and top with shredded cheese. Bake, uncovered, an additional 10 minutes. Serves 4 to 6 people.
