Ingredients

  • 1 34 cups cake flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 14 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 14 teaspoon clove
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 2 ounces unsweetened chocolate
  • 5 tablespoons boiling water
  • 12 cup butter
  • 1 12 cups sugar
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 12 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 4 egg whites

Method

  • Preheat oven to 350*.
  • Grease 2 8-inch round pans.
  • Sift flour before measuring, resift with baking powder.
  • Add salt, cinnamon, cloves and chopped nuts.
  • In double boiler melt chocolate, add boiling water and set aside.
  • Cream butter until soft, add sugar, and cream again.
  • Add egg yolks to cream mixture 1 at a time as you beat them into the batter.
  • Now add cooled chocolate mixture, and mix well.
  • Alternate flour and milk into chocolate mixture.
  • Stir until smooth, add vanilla and set aside.
  • Whip egg whites until stiff.
  • Fold lightly into cake batter.
  • Pour into 2 8" round pans.
  • Bake about 30-35 minutes.
  • Frost as desired.
