Ingredients

  • 1 c. Crisco shortening
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 c. chopped pecans
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 Tbsp. water
  • 1 1/2 c. chopped dates, dredged in flour

Method

  • Cream together shortening, sugars and eggs.
  • Stir in water and vanilla.
  • Stir in flour gradually, mixing well.
  • Mix in dates and nuts.
  • Press cookie dough into greased jelly roll pan (dough should be about 1/4-inch deep).
  • Bake at 350° until lightly browned.
  • (Do not overcook.
  • Dough in oven should still be slightly puffy looking.)
  • Cook 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Cut into bars.
