Ingredients
- 1/4 c. brown sugar
- 1/2 c. water
- 1 1/2 c. flour
- 1 c. brown sugar
- 3/4 c. butter
- 8 oz. pkg. pitted date halves
- 1/2 tsp. water
- 1 c. oats
- 1/2 c. nuts
Method
- Grease a 13 x 9-inch pan.
- In a medium pan, combine 1/4 cup brown sugar, dates and water.
- Bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes or until thick.
- Remove from heat.
- Stir in vanilla.
- Spoon flour into cup, level off.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, oats, 1 cup brown sugar, nuts and salt.
- Use fork and blend in butter until mixture is coarse crumbs.
- Reserve 2 cups of crumb mixture for topping.
- Press crumb mixture firmly in bottom of greased pan.
- Spread evenly with date mixture.
- Sprinkle with remaining crumbs.
- Pat lightly.
- Bake at 350° until golden brown.
