Ingredients
- 3 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
- 3 Tbsp. cornstarch
- 1 c. sugar
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 3 c. milk
- 3 egg yolks
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 Tbsp. butter or margarine
Method
- Combine flour, cornstarch, sugar and salt in a heavy saucepan. Gradually stir in milk. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened and bubbly. Beat egg yolks until thick and lemon colored. Gradually stir about 1/4 of hot mixture into yolks. Add to remaining hot mixture, stirring constantly, about 2 minutes or until thickened. Stir in vanilla and butter. Let cool. Yield: about 3 cups.
