Ingredients

  • 1/3 c. margarine or butter
  • 1 3/4 c. all-purpose flour
  • 3 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 c. currants or raisins
  • 4 to 6 Tbsp. half and half
  • 1 egg, beaten (for glazing)
  • 1/2 tsp. grated orange rind

Method

  • Heat oven to 400°.
  • Cut margarine into flour, sugar, baking powder and salt until mixture resembles fine crumbs.
  • Stir in 1 egg, the currants, orange rind and just enough half and half so dough leaves side of bowl. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface and knead lightly ten times.
  • Roll 1/2-inch thick.
