Ingredients

  • 3/4 c. coarsely chopped walnuts
  • 1 c. coarsely chopped dates
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 3/4 c. boiling water
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 1/2 c. flour

Method

  • Melt butter in boiling water.
  • Add the nuts, dates, baking soda and salt.
  • Let stand 15 minutes in a separate bowl.
  • Beat the eggs; add the vanilla, sugar and flour.
  • Combine the date mixture with the egg mixture.
  • Grease a loaf pan and pour in mixture. Bake in a 350° oven for 50 to 60 minutes.
  • Makes 1 loaf.
