Ingredients

  • 158 ml unsifted flour
  • 12 teaspoon baking powder
  • 225 ml sugar
  • 14 teaspoon salt
  • 80 ml butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 unsweetened chocolate squares
  • 118 ml chopped raisins
  • 60 ml chopped nuts (optional)

Method

  • Mix flour, baking powder and salt together in a bowl.
  • Melt butter and chocolate in a double boiler.
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat eggs well.
  • Add sugar to the eggs gradually, beating the mixture after each addition.
  • Add the raisins and vanilla to the egg mixture.
  • Add the flour, baking powder and salt to the egg mixture.
  • Stir in the nuts, if using them.
  • Preheat oven to 175C.
  • Grease a square cookie sheet.
  • Pour the dough in, taking care to level it out.
  • Bake for 25 minutes, until it turns a golden brown.
  • Cool before cutting into bars.
