Ingredients
- softened butter
- 4 - 5 cups of some type of bread (preferably somewhat stale). I used ciabatta, a whole wheat croissant and leftover brownies)
- 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
- 4 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup 1/2 & 1/2
- 2 T. vanilla
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup caramel sauce
- 1/4 - 1/3 cup bourbon
Method
- preheat oven to 350 F
- generously butter a 4 quart baking dish -- I used a souffle dish
- cut bread/brownies into 1/2" pieces -- place in pan
- whips eggs well, add milk and 1/2 & 1/2
- add vanilla
- add bourbon
- mix well
- pour over bread
- pour caramel sauce over top (may need to slightly warm to have easily pourable consistency)
- place in oven, bake for 50 -- 55 minutes
- remove, allow to cool as long as you can before you dig a spoon in at least 30 -- 45 minutes
- serve warm with vanilla ice cream, maybe some dulce de leche drizzled over, because why not?
