Ingredients

  • softened butter
  • 4 - 5 cups of some type of bread (preferably somewhat stale). I used ciabatta, a whole wheat croissant and leftover brownies)
  • 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup 1/2 & 1/2
  • 2 T. vanilla
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce
  • 1/4 - 1/3 cup bourbon

Method

  • preheat oven to 350 F
  • generously butter a 4 quart baking dish -- I used a souffle dish
  • cut bread/brownies into 1/2" pieces -- place in pan
  • whips eggs well, add milk and 1/2 & 1/2
  • add vanilla
  • add bourbon
  • mix well
  • pour over bread
  • pour caramel sauce over top (may need to slightly warm to have easily pourable consistency)
  • place in oven, bake for 50 -- 55 minutes
  • remove, allow to cool as long as you can before you dig a spoon in at least 30 -- 45 minutes
  • serve warm with vanilla ice cream, maybe some dulce de leche drizzled over, because why not?
