- 5 Tbsp. olive oil
- 2 large onions
- 4 cloves garlic
- 1 1/2 lb. ground beef
- 3 c. tomato sauce
- 1 c. water
- 3/4 tsp. celery seed
- 1/4 tsp. cayenne
- 1 1/2 tsp. ground cumin seed
- 2 bay leaves
- 3 Tbsp. chili powder
- 3 tsp. salt
- 2 (16 oz.) cans kidney beans
Method
- Heat oil in skillet.
- Add onion and garlic.
- Saute until golden.
- Add meat and brown.
- Transfer the meat mixture to a large saucepan and add remaining ingredients (except beans).
- Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, until sauce is thick as desired (about 4 hours).
- Add 2 cans kidney beans before serving. Cook them for 2 hours in the simmering sauce.
