Ingredients
- 1/2 c. butter
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 3 eggs, beaten
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
Method
- Preheat oven to 350°.
- Cream butter.
- Add sugar gradually; cream well.
- Add eggs and stir.
- Sift together flour, salt, baking powder, soda and nutmeg.
- Add to sugar/butter mixture, alternate with buttermilk and mix well.
- Pour batter into two 9-inch layer pans.
- Sprinkle tops of cake batter with sugar and nutmeg.
- Bake 35 minutes or until done at 350°.
- No frosting necessary.
- The sugar and nutmeg make a sweet topping.
