Ingredients
- 1 3/4 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 Tbsp. baking powder
- 5 to 6 Tbsp. butter, margarine or Crisco shortening
- 3/4 c. buttermilk
Method
- Preheat oven to 400°.
- Combine flour with salt and baking powder.
- Use 2 knives or a pastry blender to cut in butter or substitute.
- No piece of shortening should be larger than a pea. Add buttermilk and stir the mixture until it holds together. Briefly knead on lightly floured surface.
- Roll to 1/2-inch thickness and cut into 2-inch rounds.
- Place in ungreased 9-inch baking pan and bake at 400° about 12 to 15 minutes, or until the biscuits are nicely browned.
- Serve immediately.
- Makes about 1 dozen.
