Ingredients
- 650 g beef mince
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons tomato sauce
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 2 teaspoons oil
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 4 round bread rolls
- 4 lettuce leaves
- 1 medium tomato, sliced
- 4 slices beetroot
- tomato or barbecue sauce
Method
1. Place mince, onion, sauces, breadcrumbs and egg in a large mixing bowl. Using hands, combine mixture thoroughly. Divide into four equal portions and shape into patties about 1.5 cm thick.
2. Heat frying pan and brush lightly with oil. Cook burgers over medium-high heat for 8 minutes each side, turning once. Place a slice of cheese on top of each burger for the last 4 minutes of cooking time.
3. While burgers are cooking, cut rolls in half horizontally and toast lightly under the griller. Place lettuce, tomato and beetroot on each roll, top with burger. Add tomato or barbecue sauce to taste, place top half of roll on top. Serve immediately.
