Ingredients

  • 4 c. sifted flour
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 1 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. unsalted butter
  • 4 c. coarsely shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 1 Tbsp. dill weed
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 c. milk

Method

  • Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut butter into dry ingredients until crumbly, about the texture of uncooked oatmeal. Stir in cheese and dill. Combine eggs and milk. Add to dry, stirring just enough to moisten uniformly. Divide among 4 well-greased pans and bake in hot (400°) oven 35 to 40 minutes, until loaves are nicely browned and sound hollow when thumped. Slice approximately 1/2-inch thick. Freezes well. Makes 4 loaves, each 7 x 3 x 2-inches.
