Ingredients

  • 5 c. bread cubes
  • 2 qt. milk
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla
  • 8 eggs
  • 1/2 c. raisins

Method

  • Scald milk.
  • Separately, beat eggs slightly.
  • Add sugar, salt and vanilla to eggs.
  • Beat.
  • Add the scalded milk to the egg and vanilla mixture.
  • Grease a 9 x 13-inch pan with some of the butter.
  • Place bread and raisins in the pan.
  • Then pour the warm milk mixture over the bread.
  • Bake at 325° for about 1 hour or until a knife comes out clean.
  • At 30 minutes into cooking time, stir the mixture lightly, otherwise the bread will sink to the bottom.
