Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 2 cans black beans, 15 ounce or 560 grams, drained (reserve liquid)
  • 1 can refried black beans, 15 ounce or 560 grams
  • 1-1/2 tablespoons mild chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon dried basil
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 can crushed tomatoes, 14 ounce or 500 grams
  • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
  • 1/2 jalpeno pepper, minced with seeds in
  • 1/2 teaspoon or salt to taste

Method

  • Heat oil in a dutch oven or large pot over medium heat.
  • Stir in onion, jalapeno and garlic; saute until onion is translucent.
  • Add seasonings and continue to saute for 1 minute.
  • Add turkey and stir until meat is browned.
  • Add beans, tomatoes, and vinegar. Add reserved liquid from beans as desired.
  • Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for 1 hour.
  • Adjust seasonings and serve with corn bread.
