Ingredients

  • 12 cup butter
  • 1 cup chopped yellow onion
  • 3 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 12 cup ketchup
  • 14 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 12 teaspoon ground pepper
  • 14 teaspoon Tabasco sauce
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon basil (dry or fresh)
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper (or to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Method

  • In a medium sauce pan over medium high heat melt the butter then add the onions and garlic.
  • Saute until the onions are tender (about 5 minutes).
  • Add the remaining ingredients, bring to a boil then reduce heat and simmer until ready to serve.
  • You can add the Cayenne pepper to suit your taste.
  • I usually make a weak batch for the light weights and a hotter batch for the real lovers of a spicy sauce.
