Ingredients

  • 3/4 lb. ground beef
  • 1/4 lb. ground pork
  • 1 small onion, grated
  • 1/2 c. fine dry bread crumbs
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1/8 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp. marjoram
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 3 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 can beef consomme
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 3 Tbsp. water
  • 2 Tbsp. sweet relish

Method

  • Combine meat, onion, crumbs, seasonings, eggs and milk.
  • Mix with a fork.
  • Shape into 48 small balls.
  • Brown a few at a time in shortening.
  • Drain off all fat from pan.
  • Return meat balls.
  • Pour consomme over balls.
  • Simmer, covered, 15 minutes.
  • Remove with a slotted spoon.
  • Keep hot.
