Ingredients

  • 5 c. flour
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 pkg. (1 Tbsp.) dry yeast
  • 4 Tbsp. warm water
  • 2 c. fresh buttermilk

Method

  • Sift dry ingredients, cut in shortening with pastry blender. Dissolve yeast in warm water; add to dry ingredients with buttermilk; mix well.
  • Roll out 1/4-inch thick; cut with round biscuit cutter.
  • Dip in melted butter; fold in half.
  • Bake at 400° for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Use what you need, put the rest in refrigerator.
  • These will keep in fridge or may be frozen.
  • No need to thaw out, just place from freezer to oven.
  • Place 3 to 4 tablespoons butter in pan for biscuits.
