Ingredients
- 5 c. unsifted plain flour
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. Crisco
- 2 tsp. warm water
- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 2 c. buttermilk
Method
- Mix dry ingredients together in a large mixing bowl.
- Cut shortening into the dry ingredients.
- Dissolve yeast in 2 tablespoons warm water.
- Add dissolved yeast to buttermilk.
- Mix yeast and buttermilk mixture with flour mixture.
- Place in airtight container and chill for at least 20 minutes before rolling out. Cut biscuits.
- Place on baking sheet and allow them to sit in a warm place 10 minutes before baking.
- Bake at 400° for about 10 minutes or until brown.
