Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1/2 c. lukewarm water
  • 3 c. flour
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 2 c. buttermilk

Method

  • Dissolve yeast in water.
  • Sift all dry ingredients together in large bowl.
  • Add shortening, buttermilk and yeast; mix well.
  • Turn out onto floured surface; knead well.
  • Cover; refrigerate. When ready to bake, pinch off as much dough as needed.
  • Keep remaining dough in refrigerator.
  • Roll out amount you are using to about 1/2 inch thickness.
  • Let sit in pan to rise for 15 to 20 minutes. Bake in 375° oven until brown, about 20 to 25 minutes.
