Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. sweet basil
  • 1 Tbsp. dried parsley
  • 1 tsp. black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. crushed red pepper
  • 1 lg. onion
  • 3 lg. cans crushed tomatoes
  • 4 small (or 2 large) cans tomato paste
  • 1 pkg. hot italian sausage (optional)
  • 1/4 c. oil

Method

  • Combine tomatoes, salt, black pepper, crushed red pepper, dried parsley, sweet basil, onion, and green pepper and simmer for 1 hour.
  • In a small kettle, mix tomato paste and oil.
  • Simmer until oil is absorbed and then add to the sauce mixture.
  • Also add cooked sausage at this time and continue to simmer for about 2 1/2 - 3 hours on the stove top or approximately 5 hours or more in a crock pot.
