Ingredients

  • 3 c. flour
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. plus 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 c. milk

Method

  • Combine all dry ingredients; mix well.
  • Cut in shortening. Combine milk and egg.
  • Add to flour; stir until dry ingredients are moist.
  • Turn dough onto floured surface and knead 8 to 10 times.
  • Roll dough to 1-inch thickness.
  • Cut and bake at 450° for 15 minutes.
  • Yields 15 biscuits.
