Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1/4 pound sharp Cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1 c. flour
  • 1 (7 1/2 ounce.) box dates, minced
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1/4 c. water

Method

  • Cream butter and grated cheese together.
  • Gradually add in flour, mixing to soft dough.
  • Refrigeratein refrigerator at least one hour.
  • Meanwhile combine minced dates, sugar and water in a saucepan.
  • Cook over low heat, stirring constantly till soft (about 5 min).
  • Cold.
  • Break off small portions of chilled dough.
  • Roll into ball in palm of hand.
  • Flatten and place date mix in finger shaped pcs in center.
  • (Or possibly make into small pie shaped pcs in center).
  • Roll dough to cover mix.
  • Bake on cookie sheet at 350 degrees for 15 min or possibly till golden.
  • (Makes about 24 or possibly 30 pies).
  • Great for parties, teas and snacks.
