Ingredients

  • Pastry for double crust (9-inch) pie
  • 3 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 7-1/4 tsp. Equal
  • for recipes or 24 packets Equal
  • sweetener or 1 c. Equal
  • Spoonful
  • 3/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 8 c. apples, sliced, cored, and peeled (Use Jonathan, McIntosh, or Rome Beauty apples)

Method

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  • Roll half the pasty onto floured surface into circle a little larger than inverted pie plate. Gently put pastry into pan.
  • Combine cornstarch, Equal|, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.
  • Sprinkle over apples in a large bowl and toss.
  • Place apple mixture into pie crust.
  • Roll other half pastry into circle large enough to cover pie.
  • Cut out shapes from pastry using cookie cutter.
  • Place pastry on pie.
  • Trim and seal edges by pressing with fork.
  • Place cut out shapes onto pie crust. Bake 40-50 minutes, until pastry is brown and apples are tender. Cool on wire rack.
