Ingredients
- 1/2 c. granulated sugar
- 1/2 c. brown sugar
- 1 c. shortening
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 c. sifted flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. cream of tartar
Method
- Cream sugars, shortening and egg.
- Add vanilla; blend well. Add sifted flour and other dry ingredients.
- Form into balls the size of walnuts.
- Dip top half into water, then into some granulated sugar.
- Place on ungreased baking sheet.
- Press down into the center of each with a finger.
- Decorate center with a walnut half or a candied cherry, if desired.
- Bake at 425° for 8 to 10 minutes.
